Living in a busy household, we want to get our laundry done as quickly as possible. So when a Whirlpool washer vibrates during spin cycle and interrupts the flow, we need to know how to fix it.

Why Your Whirlpool Washer Vibrates During Spin Cycle

When your washing machine suddenly starts shaking or vibrating, you need to know why. Here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

Overloading

The most common reason a Whirlpool washer vibrates during spin cycle is being overloaded with clothes. It seems counterintuitive to not make use of every inch of the washer when running a load. The problem is, overloading the washer can damage the machine, not to mention your clothes won’t get as clean.

Solution: When your Whirlpool washer is shaking from holding too many clothes, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for how full to load the washer. Front-loading and top-loading models may differ in their maximum capacities.

Unbalanced Load

A top-loading Whirlpool washer bangs during spin cycle when the drum is unbalanced. Sometimes the weight of the items isn’t evenly distributed, meaning one side ends up heavier than the other side. When the drum is weighted down from the water, it creates an even more significant balance discrepancy, which makes your washer bang around it an elliptical pattern when it’s trying to spin.

Solution: Make sure to balance the size and weight of clothes when loading the washer.

Washer Not Level

If you notice your Whirlpool washer vibrates on spin cycle, the washer may not be level. Thankfully, washing machines use adjustable legs to help level it out.

Solution: Use a level to check the washer. Adjust the legs accordingly by twisting the bottom “feet” of the washer.

Shipping Bolts Haven’t Been Removed

Help! My brand new washing machine shakes violently! If you have a Whirlpool washer shaking violently on spin cycle, you may need to remove the shipping bolts. All front-load washers are shipped with bolts to stabilize the washer drum during transport to avoid damage.

Solution: Remove the shipping bolts located at the back of the washer.

Internal Component Failure

When your Whirlpool washer vibrates during spin cycle and you have checked all of the above, you’re probably experiencing a parts failure. Over time, appliances develop normal wear and tear with frequent usage. There are a number of internal components that can wear down, break, or generally need replacement.

Solution: Contact a local technician to service and repair your washer.
